On Monday, 29th March 2021, Ghana Chamber of Mines, led by its Chief Executive, Mr. Sulemanu Koney, paid a working visit to me at the Western Regional Coordinating Council (WRCC). We discussed amongst other issues, the facilitation of Investment in the Western Region.
It was on this front I urged them to scale up its various economic and investment activities in the Region because we have substantial mineral resources base which emphasises the need for more robust economic and social investment in the Region.
I held the position that the Chamber’s investment shouldn’t be concentrated in Accra and Kumasi, rather, it’s time greater attention is given to the Western Region. I reiterated that, we are poised for action: as we build an entrepreneurial Region, financial services hub, manufacturing, et cetera.
The Tarkwa town roads and mining community roads must be the focus, specifically. Hundred (100) million Dollars has been allocated to fix Tarkwa town roads, also, Tarkwa-Takoradi dual carriage has duly been awarded to facilitate economic development.
The Chamber is a private voluntary body therefore, I urged them to have more and more impactful initiatives in the Western Region because they represent the mining Industry.
Hon. Dr. Kwabena Okyere Darko-Mensah, Western Regional Minister and MP, Takoradi Constituency.
