On Thursday, 16th September 2021, I chaired the Western Regional Coordinating Council’s meeting held in Takoradi. The meeting which is part of our obligation tailored towards deepening and strengthening the decentralized system of governance in the Western Region as well as fostering deeper participation and inclusiveness was attended by all relevant stakeholders. It was also to harmonize plans and programs in order to attain the overall development of the Region.

I touched on chieftaincy disputes, where I urged aggrieved parties to seek redress at the court. On the galamsey issues, I accounted for measures taken following the request from the Hon. Minister for Lands and Natural Resources to REGSEC.

I spoke on some major swoops, arrests, and seizures of equipment, and the remedial approach advanced to deal with the illegal mining. I reported on private sector support through the Ghana Gold Expo/Mining Week 2021 initiatives. In other news W/Region: Police begin the search for missing 9-month pregnant woman

Furthermore, I reported on the President, Council of State Members, and other Ministers of State visits to the Western Region. One-District-One-Factory, Assemblies’ Performance Assessment Tool (DPAT), District Medium Term Development Plan (DMTDP), and other important Government flagship projects were reported on and subsequent interventions and initiatives were unveiled. Most importantly, the upcoming Western Regional Youth Summit is to be organized in October this year to give entrepreneurial training to the youth.

I again unveiled a planned entrepreneurial initiative to be part of our academics right from the primary level.

I emphasized that I envisioned Western Region becoming a robust and resilient financial ecosystem and a hub that provides unmatched financial services to meet the needs of the business community. I believe this will strategically reposition the Region to take advantage of the enormous benefits that the African Continental Free Trade Area (AFCFTA) headquartered in Accra, brings to Ghana and the West African Sub-region.

Hon. Dr. Kwabena Okyere Darko-Mensah, Western Regional Minister and MP for Takoradi Constituency.
