On Monday, 14th December 2020, I welcomed the Western Regional Coordinating Council Members and all invited dignitaries to the Second Meeting of the Council held at the Takoradi Library Conference Hall in accordance with section 19(1) of the Local Government Act, 2016 (Act 936). Although it was a statutory provision which necessitated such a meeting, it also offered us the opportunity to report on activities and performance (success and failures) of the Coordinating Council for the year 2020. I addressed the meeting in detailed all budgetary and expenditure information including grants from Development Partners as well as performance of the government in terms of policy implementation successes, socioeconomic interventions, projects (delivered and ongoing), events, human resources (recruitment to the Local Government Service), et cetera.
I gave an update on the covid-19 pandemic in the Western Region, of which as at today 14th December, the active cases are 14 compared to the national active cases of 894. I also enumerated on interventions in terms of equipment and infrastructure embarked upon in response to the fight against the spread of the virus.
Election of Presiding Members , 2020 Election matters, Transition Arrangement, Security Issues, Modernization of Operations/Rebranding of the WRCC, Events, District Assemblies Performance Assessment, Challenges and 2021 Outlook were duly reported on.
We have had undoubtedly a tough year but we take consolation from the good leadership we have had and will continue to have going into 2021.
