On Wednesday, 18th August 2021, I attended the maiden retirement seminar of the NBC Ghana Trust which was held at the Akroma Plaza in Takoradi.
The theme for the occasion was “Empowering the Ghanaian worker to retire in dignity”, which I believe was spot-on because it serves the Ghanaian worker’s right to retire in dignity.
And it can only be achieved when there is careful planning for the future. I submitted to the professionals present, as a matter of importance to save toward financial independence which requires personal and financial planning.
I advised everyone not to be complacent about the future because it’s usually unknown. However, diligent planning ensures our safety and well-being after active work.
I called on the professionals to expand the retirement mass by investing in mutual funds, fixed-income securities, and other government-backed pension/trust companies for the latter years to be relaxed.
I underscored the efforts of NPRA in ensuring 3-Tier Pension Scheme education. I also emphasized the commitment of the Government of Ghana through SSNIT in its resolved “Past Credit” issues for public sector workers who retired from January 2020.
As the Government is stabilizing the economy amidst the Covid-19 pandemic, I urged the operators of the pension industry to ensure smooth and accountable work at the end for consumers.
