On Monday, 16th August 2021, I cut sod for the commencement of New Takoradi Canoe Workshop Project funded by the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA).
The project is to serve as a facility for canoe craft and repairs centre for the boats and related fishing equipment.
The government is committed to protecting the livelihood of the fishing communities not only in the area of preventing disasters arising from the effect/impact of the rock outcrops on canoes.
The interest of the government is economic viability for the fisher folks therefore also investing in sea defence works.
Government again has a concept of development in coastal erosion areas which fits into its commitment to “social justice” as well as its priority policies on economic and infrastructural development.
With this, by ameliorating the plight of coastal areas, the government expects to establish confidence in the sector which would attract investment in fisheries, tourism and industrial development.
