On Saturday, 19th December, 2020, I attended the 5th Congregation of Takoradi Technical University (TTU) at Effia in the Western Region, which saw 3155 graduands awarded various degrees and diplomas on merit. I was delighted to be the guest speaker. I acknowledged the academic difficulty this year had presented due to COVID-19 pandemic, which invariably affected academic schedule. As graduates, competition for jobs remain an issue, as such, required careful planning and positioning for excellence.
I submitted that the structure and content of our educational system calls for a shift from merely passing examinations, to building character, nurturing values as well as raising literate who are confident and indeed citizens who can think critically. I pointed out that, current education must therefore focus on impacting entrepreneurial, scientific and technical skills in our graduates. Purely, it’s the vision of government, which I was happy to note that Takoradi Technical University shares same and hasn’t relented on its efforts in ensuring total quality management in this direction.
