On friday September 17, 2020, marked a very important day in the annals of the Western Region, as far as our preparedness for dealing with infectious diseases such as covid-19 is concerned.
We commissioned Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital’s Infectious Disease Centre, at the event were Hon. Abdul Mumin Issah, Chief Executive of Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly, Mr. Raphael Frerking, Programme Manager, Governance for Inclusive Development (GovID) – GIZ.
Also present was Regional Director of Health Services and Medical Director, Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital.
The Infectious Disease Centre is one the most sophisticated medical facility in Ghana when it comes to the management of infectious diseases, the facility is furnished with modern equipments including ventilators which are very key to supporting Covid-19 patients who unfortunately enter the advance stage of the disease and will require respiratory support.
I spoke to the effect that, the Western Region had an initiative which brought about the reactivation of the Regional Veterinary laboratory to test for the covid-19, thereby reducing the turn-around time and enhancing our efforts against the novel coronavirus.
On behalf of the good people of the Western Region and on my own behalf, I expressed a profound gratitude to the German Government working through the German Development Agency (GIZ) for the enormous financial and technical support given to refurbish and equip the infectious centre. I also congratulated the Regional Health Directorate, the authorities of Effia-Nkwanta Hospital and indeed the entire team of professionals whose hard work and cooperation has led to what we witnessed today.
I further used the opportunity to enumerates the tireless efforts H.E. Nana Addo led administration is pursuing in terms of projects, programmes and other critical interventions in the Western Region.
Hon. Dr. Kwabena Okyere Darko Mensah, Western Regional Minister and MP Takoradi Constituency.
