Yesterday, September 26, 2020, I joined the Hon. Minister of Tourism, Culture And Creative Arts, Mrs. Barbara Oteng Gyasi, who is also the member of parliament for Prestea Huni Valley constituency to observe World Tourism Day.
The occasion had the theme, “Tourism and Rural Development” which the United Nations (UN) entreated all to join “celebrate the unique role tourism plays in providing opportunities outside of the cities and preserving cultural and natural heritage all around the world”.
Obviously, this year’s celebration has been faced by the covid-19 pandemic, which is a challenge to the sector, but government is doing everything possible to support the sector to sustain its jobs which is a major employment opportunity for the teeming youth, particularly women,
thereby, being an incentive to curb migration from the countryside to the urban centres. Which is a motivation to see to the development of our rural communities.
